The Game
What is The Life of Kevin?
The Life of Kevin is an adult browser visual novel — a multiplayer, persistent interactive story that unfolds in real time alongside thousands of other players. You play as Kevin West: a 40-something American, recently divorced, who left everything behind and arrived in Amsterdam with two hundred euros, a carry-on bag, and no plan beyond showing up.
Kevin is not a hero. He is not exceptional. He is someone who made the decision to start over late enough in life that most people would not. The game follows him through the shelter, the bureaucracy, the certification exam, the friendships that form in shared waiting rooms — and the relationships that become something more.
Every day in the game is a new chapter. Choices matter. Some doors close. Some conversations stay with you. Other real players are making their own choices at the same time, shaping the same world — you can see their decisions reflected in the story statistics, in the community, in the characters who notice what most people walked past.
Who We Are
One developer. One city. One story.
The Life of Kevin is an independent project — built, written, and operated by a single developer based in the Netherlands. There is no studio behind this. No publisher. No investor calling for engagement metrics or monetisation targets.
The game exists because the story felt worth telling. Kevin is not a character pulled out of thin air — his situation, his city, his small daily struggles are grounded in research, observation, and conversations with people who have actually rebuilt their lives from scratch in Amsterdam. The shelter is real. The bureaucracy is real. The ranunculus on the desk is real.
Development is ongoing and the game is updated regularly. When a new day is written, it goes live. When a character is introduced, she has a voice before she has a portrait. The story comes first, always.
This project is funded entirely by players who choose to support it. There are no ads, no paywalls, and no content gated behind currency. If you want to help keep it running, the donate page is there. If you just want to play, that is also completely fine.
How We Make It
The content behind the characters.
Every character in The Life of Kevin has a face, a wardrobe, a way of standing in a room. Creating that visual layer honestly and at scale — for a solo project, with no budget for traditional photography — required a different approach. We use two sources, in roughly equal measure:
AI-Generated Art
Backgrounds, scene illustrations, and a portion of character imagery are created using AI image generation tools. These assets are original to this project — not stock photos, not licensed third-party images. They are generated specifically for each character and scene.
Community Contributors
A significant portion of character imagery — including portraits, scenes, and explicit material — comes from real people who have voluntarily chosen to contribute their likeness to the project. These individuals are credited as the Community Crew and have full control over what they share.
Why It Matters
Adult content that treats you like an adult.
Most adult visual novels are power fantasies. The person you play is exceptional, desired without effort, and the world bends toward them. That is a valid genre. It is not what this is.
Kevin earns things. Relationships in this game develop through patience, honesty, and showing up consistently — not through a dialogue tree optimised for a good ending. The intimate content in this game, when it appears, is built from the same foundation as everything else: real character, real context, real consequence.
The Community Crew — the real people who contributed their images — understood this before they agreed. They are not props. In many cases they have read the story, understand the characters, and chose to be part of something they believed in.
That means something to us. It shapes how the game is made.
Special Thanks
The people who made it real.
Behind every real face in this game is a person who chose to be here. We are grateful for each of them.
